Who can be a board member?
Any member in good standing age 18 years or older may volunteer.
What does a Board Member do?
Board members are responsible for making policies, approving budgets, and planning the strategic direction of the credit union. They also are responsible for appointing the Manager & CEO of the credit union, who reports directly to the Board.
What does it take to be a Board Member?
Candidates should be honest, selfless and willing to act for the good of the Credit Union membership. Above all, candidates must possess a willingness to serve and an interest in the credit union. Candidates should be comfortable speaking their minds and voicing their opinions.
How much time is required?
Board members typically devote a minimum of 6 to 8 hours per month to credit union business, including attending monthly Board meetings held on the main campus of Georgetown University. Each Board member serves a term of 3 years and there is no limit on the number of terms a member can serve.
What are the benefits of being a Board Member?
While the Board position is voluntary and unpaid, representatives serve as the voice for their fellow members and have a direct say in the overall direction of the credit union. Board members have the unique opportunity to affect the financial lives of the members served by the credit union.
